2024 Stump Fellowship
A new community service program with the U Street Neighborhood Association
At the end of 2023, USNA received a surprise extension to our lease at Temperance Alley Garden. What began as a temporary pop-up project is becoming a more enduring staple of our neighborhood. Now that this gardening game has entered Overtime, how can we avoid burnout, support more event hosts, and continue bringing beauty and loveliness to the U Street corridor? For Season 4 of TAG (March–November 2024), the USNA is sprouting its inaugural Stump Fellowship. Fellows will animate the garden space by caring for its ecology and supporting the gatherings that bloom here.
What’s in store for Season 4?
Stumps will help USNA bring as much life as possible to Temperance Alley. Each day will have its own Stump—think of it like a watering day, but instead of giving sips to the plants, you’re helping events grow. Responsibilities include:
📆 Scheduling your Stump days at Housekeeping Circles (around 4-5 events per month)
🔑 Arriving first and leaving last for your Stump day’s event hours, to unlock & lock the gate
✨ Helping set up any lighting, electrical, music, and signage needs, as well as the extra multi-sensory elements that give events the TAG special sauce
🧹 Cleaning up post-event and returning all furniture and equipment to proper location
🤝 Finding and assigning someone else to cover the above duties when you need some helping hands
🌀 Coordinating across event hosts to prevent scheduling conflicts and facilitate interesting cross-pollinations
💡 Receiving a full orientation on TAG event animation, design, and production
