Happy 2nd Birthday to the Temperance Alley Garden!
Hard to believe it's already been two years since we first unlocked the gates and cut down the barbed wire. A lot has happened in a relatively short amount of time. Our volunteers have now hosted over 250 events of different shapes and sizes, which have brought healing, entertainment, education, and conviviality to the neighborhood. Our programming has included workshops on ecology, writing, photography, painting, mushroom cultivation, and oral history; wellness classes like Qigong, Yoga, and group meditation; cultural events like Music in the Garden, charity art markets, neighborhood picnics, and holiday celebrations. Weβre also well on our way towards growing 1,500 lbs of produce this season, including squash, watermelon, beans, pepper, tomato, kale, bok choy, collard greens, and more.
Join the U Street Neighborhood Association for a celebration of the garden and all the wonderful hosts, volunteers, and participants who bring the space to life.
