"Seed to Soul" Connecting Communities of Color back to Nature through Urban Gardening

  • U Street Neighborhood Association PO Box 73784 Washington, DC, 20009 United States of America (map)

Soul Trak is a DC based non-profit whose mission is to diversify the outdoors by connecting communities of color to outdoor spaces and activities while developing future environmental and community stewards and leaders. Soul Trak's 2023 Environmental Leaders Cohort, made up of 12 emerging outdoor leaders from around the DMV, are excited to present their community initiative, "Seed to Soul", an engaging day of exploring a local urban garden space. The mission of our program is to reconnect communities of color to nature, and to strengthen relationships to nature through the exploration of our food environment. By highlighting gardening as an easy accessible way to connect with nature, the cohort hopes to foster empowerment to Black and Brown families to redefine their relationship with the outdoors.

The Seed to Soul Initiative will host a gardening education workshop and discussion on how to take care of our environment. We will be providing mini grow kits and have interactive activities for all ages to participants.
