La Pulga: neighborhood clothing swap

  • U Street Neighborhood Association PO Box 73784 Washington, DC, 20009 United States of America (map)

La Pulga (‘the flea’) is a first of its kind community building and clothing swap event, giving neighbors a new way to get rid of items they no longer use and reducing the need to buy new things. Unlike a thrift shop, which can often feel impersonal; or a vintage store, which is limited to curated, more expensive pieces; this not-for-profit event will focus on everyday clothes and other household items. Fun, sustainability, and community building all in one place – like a buy nothing group but in real life!

During the event, participants can browse, chat, drink and snack. We will set up a couple of changing booths with mirrors so people can try things on. Participants are free to take as much as they want or need, no direct trade required. At the end, participants can take back any special pieces that were not exchanged. Any clothes left over after the event will be sorted and either donated to a DC-based mutual aid group or recycled.

This event has a limited number of spots. Learn more and sign up to participate here.
